Hello Master & Senior Trainers,
I am writing this note as a follow up to the one sent on May 21st (Click here to review).
After completing three “office hours” style Zoom meetings with the group of educators completing the online Angry Smile training–and then reading their feedback of how much they appreciated the live interaction and wanted to complete further LSCI training as a result–I am hooked on the idea of us providing this type of opportunity more broadly.
Here’s what I’d like to do:
1. Beginning in July, the LSCI Institute will offer weekly 1-hour Zoom meetings that will be open to anyone who has either completed LSCI training OR who is interested in learning more about LSCI.
2. We’ll title the Zoom meetings “LSCI Trainer Consults” and advertise that they are open invitations for anyone interested in LSCI to have the opportunity to speak directly with an LSCI Trainer. People can join the meeting to ask general questions (e.g. “What is LSCI anyway?”) or specific ones (“I’m working with a really challenging kid who struggles with social skills. I took LSCI a year ago but need a refresher. Can you remind me of some of the things that are helpful to say and do in a New Tools intervention?”).
3. I imagine that some people will join the Zoom meeting just to listen in on others’ questions and others will call with questions that foster great dialogue on topics such as how LSCI aligns with trauma-informed practice or how to adapt LSCI for use with specific populations. The possibilities are endless!
4. I also imagine that every Zoom call will be a bit different, depending on who leads it and who joins it. In that sense, we might even build a nice audience of people who attend regularly, knowing there is always a new nugget of insight that could come from a conversation.
5. I’d guess that some might be crowded with participants and some might be sparse–and both scenarios are okay. That the LSCI Institute is offering this weekly, no-cost opportunity to ask questions and discuss challenges with a certified Trainer is a great benefit and service!
6. On top of that, I’d like to think that for you as a Trainer, leading a Zoom call will be a great opportunity to network and build a customer base.
Since you are already a certified Trainer for the LSCI Institute, you know what you need to know to provide information about LSCI and engage in conversations about using LSCI with children and adolescents. Because the Zoom meetings are not trainings, but rather consults that allow participants to set the agenda, you do not need to do any preparation of materials or content ahead of time. We just need your mind and your experience working with young people, using LSCI.
7. If you are interested in being the host of a Zoom call, please email me ASAP. Dates are listed below.
Tentatively, I am thinking that we’ll start by offering the LSCI Trainer Consults every Tuesday in July & August, from 12-1pm (lunch hour), starting on July 7th. I hope that timing can suit our non-North American participants as well. We can start with that date and time and be flexible as we learn our audience’s preferences. Perhaps we will scale back and offer the consults monthly in the Fall, but I thought weekly would be a nice way to get things moving over the summer.
I will set up the calls and send out the links via social media and the LSCI Blog. All you will need to do is (1) have some basic knowledge of using Zoom (I can help you if quarantine didn’t already give you a crash course in the technology) and (2) show up to host on the date of your choice.
Summer 2020 dates:
July 7, 14, 21 and 28
August 4, 11, 18 and 25
I’ll look forward to hearing from you and hope you will consider being part of this new way of reaching people and extending their LSCI learning.
Warm regards,
Signe
